Getting the Most From Your Wedding Photographer

Congratulations! You've booked your wedding photographer for your big day. Now what? Here are a few suggestions on how you can help your wedding photographer capture all the special moments on your big day.

1. Wedding Planner or Wedding Itinerary

Weddings can be fast-paced (time flies when you're having fun). Constantly communicating with your photographer throughout the day will be difficult. Having one or both of these will help to lessen the confusion on where they need to be. Which brings me to my next tip...

2. Location, location, location

Will the wedding parties be getting dressed at the same place? Will the wedding parties be getting dressed at the same location of the ceremony? Will the ceremony be held at the same place as the reception? Answering all these questions will allow your photographer to plan accordingly for pre and post ceremony shoots of the wedding party and family members. Speaking of family members...

3. Special Guests

Do you have a second cousin, twice removed that traveled four days through the frozen tundra to attend your wedding? Let your wedding photographer know! Important people on your guest list may not be in your wedding party and we want to include photos of people that are special to you in your wedding photos.

4. Traditions and Customs

Special traditions and customs keep weddings interesting, and there is no shortage of creativity in this day and age. If you've planned a unique send-off, champagne toast, dance routine, dress reveal, or other one-time event make sure your photographer is aware of exactly when they will take place.

These are a few of my favorite things to know when shooting a wedding and I hope they're helpful. Have any other suggestions? I'd love to hear them in the comments!
