I got to hang out with the guys in Magic City Hippies shortly before their SOLD OUT headlining show at Motorco Music Hall in Durham. It was a rainy night but the line to get into the venue spilled out onto the sidewalk of Rigsbee Avenue. This was my first show of the year, and to get the opportunity to interview and photograph these guys to jump start this year of shows is so rare and I cherished it.
I only had 15 minutes with the guys to ask questions and take a few quick portraits. I was shooting with some new gear tonight and trying out a few things; for the portrait session I used my new (well, new to me) Canon 16-35mm f2.8 and a small, rectangular video light that attached to the hotshoe on my camera as opposed to a flash like I have in the past. The greenroom was very dark, but had lots of character. There were writings all over the wall from past musicians, the most notable being the "MILF NIPPLES" and "Ass Kisser/Eater" inscriptions. They're nothing if not inclusive. Listen to Magic City Hippies (who are definitely not from Birmingham, and totally represent Miami nightlife) when you're in the mood to vibe and dance.
